Because it runs on the long-optimized Source engine, the game places modest demands on hardware overall. What drives real load are dense hordes, particle effects from molotovs and pipe bombs, and the background AI calculations that decide where zombies path and attack. This creates occasional stuttering or hitches on under-powered CPUs during the biggest swarm moments or when heavy community mods are layered on.
